Understanding House Age and Why It Matters for Our Installations
House age plays a key role in our installation process.
The materials used in stair construction vary greatly depending on when the house was built.
Our design is specifically created for homes built after the 1990s.
These are typically classed as new builds and use modern, consistent materials that suit our system perfectly.
Modern staircases (post-1990s) are generally made from MDF.
MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) is a type of compressed paper material — strong, uniform, and ideal for our installations.
Why MDF is ideal for our product:
It doesn’t contain natural cracks or splits like solid wood.
It allows us to alter the existing materials safely.
It ensures a clean, precise, and durable finish.
Older houses often use hardwoods such as oak.
Once you cut into oak or other older materials, the wood can weaken or split over time.
This increases the risk of future issues or instability in the stairs.
For this reason, we only install in homes built after the 1990s.
This guarantees a safe, secure, and consistent result every time.
It also helps us stand by the quality and reliability of our installations.
We’re selective with how far we travel and the homes we work on. This ensures we maintain our standards and only fit where we can confidently guarantee long-term safety and quality.
